SAT SATURDAY – WEEK 1

SAT Prep is an important topic, but you do not need to approach it with fear. Each Saturday, two questions will be posted similar to the type you will find on the mathematics section of an SAT test.* The following week, I will provide the answer along with two new questions. These questions are good practice for the PSAT or the ACT as well.

* I am creating these myself, based on available SAT test materials (so that I do not infringe on copyright laws).

SAT Question 1.        (Algebra 1)

ASK A MATH TEACHER

Today’s question comes from the internet.

How Do You Remember the First Few Digits of Pi?

Me personally, I was taught the first ten digits of pi by remembering a sentence: “How I Wish I Could Eliminate My Energy Bills Now.” How has three letters; I is one letter; Wish is four letters, and so on. π = 3.141592653

There are other sentences you can use.

A black bracelet and each bead is a number in the pi sequence to 28 digits.

And one in French: Moi, j’aime a faire connaitre un nombre utile aux sages. (3.1415926535)

Roughly translated, this means “I like to teach a number useful to wise men.”
