💻 How Visual Grids Represent Decimals

Decimals are simply special fractions with denominators of 10, 100, or 1,000 written using place value. Visual grids make place value instantly recognizable:

  • Tenths Grid (10 Columns): Each full vertical bar represents one-tenth (1/10 or 0.1).
  • Hundredths Grid (100 Mini-Squares): Each individual square represents one-hundredth (1/100 or 0.01). Full columns equal 10 hundredths (10/100 = 0.10).

💡 Place Value Pro-Tip:

Watch out for single-digit hundredths! Seven shaded squares out of 100 is 7/100, written as 0.07 — not 0.7 (which would be 7 full columns or 70 squares).
